NEW YORK CITY—Manhattan’s Physician Group (MPG) has opened a state-of-the-art medical facility in Midtown Manhattan at 590 Fifth Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets. This is the first of two new offices MPG is opening in 2010; the second office is slated to open February 4, 2010 at 21 East 22nd Street in the Flatiron District.
The Midtown office, which occupies 18,555 square feet of space on three floors, employs the latest technology, an on-site lab and coordinated care to reduce costs and increase convenience for patients who would rather see a physician during the workday. A full range of services are offered which include allergy and immunology; cardiology; internal medicine; integrative nutrition; ob/gyn; pain management; physical medicine and rehabilitation; podiatry; and pulmonary medicine.
The new Flatiron District office will also offer extended hours, family and geriatric specialists, general surgery and computer radiography. Its Express Medical Care Center is open on weekdays and Saturday, and offers patients with acute medical problems walk in services.
“To provide the highest level of quality care and service, our medical offices are continually being upgraded through renovations and replacements,” says John H. (Hank) Duffy, MPG Executive Director, noting the new Midtown office replaces its former facility on West 55th Street and the new Flatiron District office replaces an office now on East 23rd Street. “Manhattan’s Physician Group continues to expand our clinical services, locations, and supporting technologies such as our state-of-the-art EMR system which allows easy exchange of patient data between our physicians, specialists, labs, pharmacies and hospitals; fostering communication, eliminating medical errors, and improving patient service.”
For Midtown professionals, the new office offers convenient access to comprehensive health care and a broad range of services under one roof.
“The new office offers a wonderful combination of high-tech service and old-fashioned care in the best possible sense of the word. You don’t feel like you’re being whisked out,” says jewelry designer Barbara Wagner who is a long-time patient of internist Dr. Alan Egelman and also sees other physicians in the practice.
MPG uses a team model to provide better coordinated care for patients and reduce inpatient admissions. For patients with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes–an epidemic in New York City–care is coordinated among the primary care physician, endocrinologist, podiatrist, ophthalmologist and integrative nutritionist, all associated within the group.
“Our relationship with MPG is part of our almost 70-year commitment to working with medical group practices,” said Anthony L. Watson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EmblemHealth. “This facility exemplifies the kind of care we strive for and support.”
