Get your flu shot: No appointment necessary!

Flu shots are now available at all Manhattan’s Physician Group locations.  Stop by any of our offices and ask for your flu shot today, no appointments necessary.

The seasonal flu (influenza) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.  The flu easily spreads from person to person with symptoms that range in severity.

On average, every year in the United States:
5-20% of the population get infected with the seasonal flu
About 23,600 people die from flu-related causes
More than 200,000 people are hospitalized due to complications from the flu

The best way to protect yourself against influenza viruses is to get vaccinated!  “I encourage all of my patients, especially young children and parents of newborns, to get the flu shot.  Let’s all stay healthy,” says Dr. John Meer, Medical Director of Manhattan’s Physician Group’s Lincoln Square office.

Every person 6 months and older is advised to get the flu vaccine this season and every year following.  Although everyone should get a flu shot, there are specific people who have a higher risk of developing complications.

These people include:
Children under 5 years old, especially those younger than 2 years
Adults ages 50 and older
People with pre-existing medical conditions
People living in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities
People who live with or care for those at risk for health complications

While getting the vaccine is the best preventative method, be sure to wash your hands often with soap and water; cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough; and avoid contact with sick people to protect yourself and others from contracting the flu.
